The MDes course programs are organized around cross-disciplinary socio-economic issues, which constitute a form of specialization. They are linked to one of our four innovation and design centers (Care, Digital Culture, New Eating Habits and Sustainable Cities).



Completing a Master’s degree program at L’École de design means:

  • Obtaining an internationally and nationallyrecognized qualification*;
  • The possibility of following a MDes program in English or French;
  • Access to the corporate world through the alumni network, the school partnerships with companies and the innovation and design centers;
  • Opening to the world of research within the Design Labs and the associated research chairs;
  • The possibility of completing their knowledge and develop additional skills thanks to the double degrees;
  • The guarantee of acquiring a technical expertise in innovation in the areas covered by the MDes programs and gaining the management skills required for a young designer.

MDes : Course outline The master’s course programs are completed over two years, divided into 4 semesters.

  • Semester 1 : Students who did not attend undergraduate studies at L’École de design, be they French or international, are required to complete an “integration semester”, designed to assist them in adapting to their new cultural and study environment. • Students who completed their undergraduate studies at L’École de design Nantes Atlantique will spend their first semester abroad, either as an exchange student or on an internship. • All students enrolled in Transcultural Design are required to take an orientation seminar followed by an internship, preferably in China or India, depending on the chosen program.
  • Semester 2 : During this semester students learn to: manage complex design projects; broaden their knowledge of the economic, social and cultural aspects of their chosen program; create and apply a methodology; and prepare their end of study project, on a subject of their choice, related to, depending on their chosen field of study.
  • Semester 3 : Continuation and finalization of the end of study project. In parallel, students can participate in collaborative projects with companies and / or institutions.
  • Semester 4 : Four to six month internship within a company in France or abroad, as a junior designer


Current employment data for our 2015 graduates (bac +5): 12 months after obtaining their degree, 88% of graduates from the class of 2015 are employed. Of these 88%, 61% work in design agencies, 26% work for a company and 13% are self-employed.
